This section of the
site provides some background to the project. The
first stage was the production of three
short videos which were shot in December 2000. Since then the videos
were edited and transfered to DVD for
exhibition.
The focal point
for "Three Stories" is local history, viewed as a form of cultural
geography which will be used to negotiate and explore notions of social
history and create new social spaces. Narratives from local history will
be re-interpreted and re-enacted in a contemporary context, as short dramas
and sculptures. The films will be developed over a ten week workshop with
participants from the county district. The intent is to blur the distinction
between reality and fiction by shooting the films in a documentary style,
in the tradition of the television docu-soap and video diary. Similarly
the sculptures will be prototypes for a mass produced multiple, objects
that seem to have a particular use value.
This project is a public
art commission funded by South
Dublin County Council, as part of the ‘in context’ per cent for art
programme co-ordinated by Artworking.
